No fear in love
We live in a world that is full of fear. Fear of heights, fear of terrorists, fear of rejection, fear of snakes, fear of coronavirus, fear of criminals, fear of failure, fear of technology, fear of being caught, fear of being left behind, fear of the other, and on and on we go. For some of us, simply facing each day means confronting a whole bag of fears, which can be draining, and difficult.
At KawanaLife, we are currently having a conversation about how we might love our neighbours better. But that involves putting ourselves out there; it involves risk; it requires us to be a little vulnerable; all of which are pretty scary!
1 John 4:18 says, “perfect love drives out fear”. This is followed up by verse 19: “We love because he first loved us”. Becoming free from our fears – to be the people that God has called us to be, who love our neighbour as ourselves – is only possible because of the love of God which he has poured into us; a love which died for us.
Let us embrace the love that God has given us this week, and use it to drive out the fears that hold us back, because perfect love drives out fear!
